JEE (Main) 2023 Paper-I for BE/B.Tech aspirants was held on April 10, 2023. The reporting time for the students was 2:20 PM, but the exam started at 3:00 PM.

The questions cover almost all the chapters of Class XI & XII CBSE Board. In Physics, weightage is given to the 12th class chapters.

There were total 90 questions and the total marks of JEE Main Paper-1 was 300. 5 questions out of 10 in each subject were to be attempted from the numerical based section.

The paper had three parts and each part had two sections:

Part-I- Physics had total 30 questions – Section-I had 20 multiple choice questions with single correct answer and Part-II had 10 numerical based questions out of which only 5 were to be attempted. The marking scheme for multiple choice questions was +4 for correct response, -1 for incorrect response, 0 for not attempted. The marking scheme for numerical based questions was +4 for correct response and 0 in all other cases. The total marks of this section were 100.

Part-II- Chemistry had total 30* questions – Section-I had 20 multiple choice questions with single correct answer and Section-II had 10 numerical based questions out of which only 5 were to be attempted. The marking scheme for multiple choice questions was +4 for correct response, -1 for incorrect response, 0 for not attempted. Difficulty level as per the feedback received from the students on 10th April, 2023 (Afternoon Session).

Mathematics – Intermediate level. Weightage was given to the chapters of Conic section and Calculus. Questions asked from Matrices, Vectors, 3D Geometry, Ellipse, Circle, Parabola, Binomial Theorem, Progressions, Functions, AOD, Areas, Differential Equation. Both MCQ and numerical based questions require lengthy calculations. According to some students this section was also difficult.

Physics – Easy Level. Weightage has been given to the chapters on Kinematics, Laws of Motion, Rotational Motion, Magnetism, SHM & Waves, Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Ray Optics, Wave Optics, Semiconductors and Modern Physics. Numerical based questions were said to be easy. The weightage of class 12th chapters was more. Assertion : The questions on Reasoning had mixed concepts.

Chemistry – Easy to Moderate level. The weightage of Physical and Inorganic Chemistry was more. In Organic Chemistry, questions were asked from Amines, Aldehydes and Ketones, Polymers, Alcohols, Ethers and Phenols, Aryl and Alkyl Halides. Ionic equilibrium, Solid state, Surface chemistry, Coordination compounds, Mole concept, Electrochemistry, Atomic structure, Chemical kinetics. In Inorganic Chemistry there were questions from p-block and d-block, ores and metallurgy.

In order of difficulty – Mathematics was Moderate, Physics was Easy, while Chemistry was described as Easy to Moderate. Overall, this paper was of moderate level according to the students.
